The Symbolism of Our Logo

In hagiographic art, St. Augustine is depicted with his heart pierced with the arrow of God’s Word. As Augustine himself said, his heart is inflamed with love for God alone. To show this burning love, Augustine's heart is portrayed on the open book of the Sacred Scriptures. The flame is the flame of love for God. To distinguish the charism of the Augustinian Monks of the Primitive Observance, the book and heart have been set upon the cross, and the logo is inscribed with our name. We pray with St. Augustine:
“Lord, let my whole heart be inflamed with love for you, let nothing in me belong to me and let me have no thought for myself, let me burn and be wholly consumed in you, let me love you with my whole being as one set on fire by you.”
